Contemporary Dance is created by combining a wide array of dance movements, from more classical traditions such as ballet, modern and jazz, to even adding some elements of hip-hop and musical theater! Contemporary dance classes engage the dancer in fluid movement and transitions, while challenging the dancer to take risks and to perform with great depth of feeling and expression. We prepare students who haven’t dance in years by creating a solid foundation of dance through center and floor work, and elements of improvisation and individual movement-style creation! Students wanting to take Contemporary Class must also take a minimum of 2 hours of ballet technique per week.
Classes Begin the Week of September 5th

MEET OUR INSTRUCTOR
Emma Busi started dancing at age 4 at Silhouette School of Dance in Nashville, TN. After moving back to her hometown, Metairie, LA, she continued her dance education at The Academy of Classical Ballet then Helena Hosch School of Dance. Emma started dancing competitively with Helena Hosch’s Style Corps as well as with her schools dance team. During that time she had the opportunity to dance in selective competition showcases, halftime performances for the New Orleans Saints, Rose bowls, and many local events. She fell in love with the art of movement and performing. Emma and her family relocated to Shreveport, LA, due to hurricane Katrina and has since been spending most of her time there. She attended and taught classes at Red River National Stars in 2005 before beginning her training under Renee Cheveallier and Ginger Folmer at Centenary College’s dance department. It was at centenary that Miss Busi was introduced to modern dance and was made a member of the company Escaped Images. Together the company performed in various concerts, community events, and collaborated with praiseworthy bands and composers. Over the past few years Emma has had the pleasure of being a featured dancer in music videos and the film “looper”. She has performed with WC Choreography and La Rousse Promotions at countless Mardi Gras bals, fundraisers, and casino events. Emma has worked with The Shreveport Opera, Stage Center, Shreveport Little Theatre, and Factory Girls Productions. As well as being a featured character and dancer for the light suit dance crew, iluminate at Six Flags Over Texas. Most recently Emma has been an instructor at Power & Grace School of Performing Arts. Where she has taught babies to adults in ballet, tap, jazz, hip hop, contemporary, and modern. She co-founded Louisiana Dance Collective, a company for adult dancers, to provide training and performance opportunities is Shreveport and Bossier. Although she loves and trains in all styles of dance Emma’s focus is contemporary hip hop, modern, and jazz. Miss Busi is constantly seeking to be challenged in these genres and never stops growing to be a better performer, choreographer, and instructor.
